My Maternity Session with Bonnie Wid Photography
We gave our family to God from the beginning of our marriage and trusted Him to tell us when our family was done. God had given us three beautiful healthy boys all very close in age. We had our hands full, but we were blessed! However, my deliveries were all by c-section and my body was weary with surgeries. After speaking to our doctor about more pregnancies, she informed us of the heightened risk of multiple surgeries (she never pressed her opinion, simply stated the medical facts), and we felt like this was God’s way of closing the door for this chapter of our lives. I struggled with this for a while, but knew that the God that formed me in my mother’s womb, knew that I would be physically unable to deliver naturally and this didn’t take Him by surprise.
Last year, my husband and I began to talk of our future. I had recently lost my Grandmother and my Dad, within three months of each other. Our family was still grieving and we were exhausted. Thinking of new possibilities took some of the sting out of the everyday. Our boys were getting older and were all in school. We knew we would be discussing high school in a few years, our oldest would be driving, and so we began to talk about building a house. We started to dream.
The day I found out I was expecting again is an indelible moment in time. As a born again Christian, and someone who believes the Bible, I believe that God is sovereign in all things. I believe He is the author of my life and He works all things for my good. I also believe that all life is sacred. From the moment he placed a life inside me, it is just that. A life. But I have to admit, I was overwhelmed. I knew that God is good and had a plan. But His plan dramatically halted our plans.
I was in shock. After all the life changing experiences we had just gone through this felt monumental. A dear Christian friend welcomed me into her home that morning, held me while I cried, and spoke Truth to me while I worked through my emotions. God IS good. His timing is perfect and this child was a precious gift. I also knew, that day, that this child would be joy after sorrow. I would be dishonest if I said I didn’t have my fears after that day, that I didn’t wonder how God was going to work out all of the details of our lives, but He guided us through it all and proved once again, He is faithful.
That same friend that let me weep in her arms, is the same friend who helped me document this special time for our family. She gave me a maternity session that I will cherish and she was there after the birth of our joyous gift.
I want to share some of my favorite images of my maternity session by my friend Bonnie Widmaier of Bonnie Wid Photography. The dresses, necklace, and umbrella were all provided by Esther & Ella Boutique.
